August 20 Matador To Crowell, TX – 70 Miles

103 Degrees in the shade!!! Left at the crack of dawn trying to avoid as much heat of the day that I can. There was a nice sunrise as I putted east on route 70. It’s always a good sign and good time to reflect on the day ahead, and the journey so far. I had number of people stopping along the road and taking video’s and waving. It’s always fun seeing their excitement. One truck went around me and pulled over. The driver jumped out and saluted me, it made chills go up my spine. I drove around him and pulled over. He was a veteran and part of an organization (HUNTING WITH SOLDIERS INC). He heard I went through Paducah and he jumped in his truck and chased me down. He said he heard about us on news and looked up our website and he is impressed with what OSC is doing in helping our Veterans and First Responders. He said he just had to track me down and thank us. I continued east on route 70 through Paducah another 37 miles to Crowell, TX, where I stopped at Baize RV Park. It’s a little warm outside, so I will stay here for the day. I arrived at 1 pm and got settled and turned on my air in the camper and went to bed. I must have slept 2 hours! The heat out here wearing on me and I was exhausted. Tomorrow I am hoping to putt down to Seymour, TX. I plan on leaving early, so I can get to my designation by noon.
